How to Care for Your Canvas Gear

Pre-Season Before First Use

We strongly recommend pre-seasoning your canvas gear before using it for the first time. Also known as weathering or pre-conditioning, this step helps tighten the canvas weave and seal needle holes, enhancing waterproofing.

Steps:

1. Soak the canvas using rain or a garden hose until it’s thoroughly wet.
2. Let it dry completely.
3. Repeat the process once more.

Post-Use Drying & Storage

• Always dry your canvas gear completely before storage.
• Shake off or brush away any sand, dirt, or organic matter.

Storage tips:

• Store in a dry, ventilated space.
• Avoid sealed plastic containers.
• Use breathable cotton or calico bags for long-term storage.

Cleaning Your Canvas

You can clean your canvas gear with a soft brush or a gentle hose-down.

Avoid using:

• Soaps or detergents
• Solvents or petroleum-based products
• Bleach or chemical mould removers

Reproofing Over Time

Over time, your canvas may require reproofing to restore its water resistance.

• Use a canvas reproofer spray or wax safe for impregnated canvas.
• Reapply every few years or after extended heavy use.

Dealing with Mould

1. Mix 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water.
2. Lightly mist the affected area.
3. Scrub gently with a soft brush.
4. Rinse and dry completely in sunlight.
